Sherri Mayans, RN, M.S.N., APN has served as an advanced practice nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health Hackensack University Medical Center for more than 25 years. Ms. Mayans is the director of Cure and Beyond, a survivorship program for childhood cancer survivors. In addition, she is responsible for the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) cancer control, nursing and late effects studies.
Mayans has been awarded two grants from COG to support these studies. She is the principal investigator of a research study in collaboration with Rutgers University to assess the effect of a novel application of fitness in childhood cancer survivors. She also directs a committee to join the National Oncofertility Consortium in an effort to provide state-of-the-art fertility options for childhood cancer patients at Hackensack University Medical Center.
She previously served as a pediatric oncology staff nurse at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and as a pediatric hematology/oncology nurse clinician at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, FL.
Mayans earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Mercer University in Macon, GA, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida, College of Nursing in Gainesville, FL, and a Master of Science in Nursing in pediatric oncology at Widener University in Chester, PA.
Mayans has been published in her field. Her professional certifications and affiliations include: Pediatric Nursing Certification Board; Pediatric Advanced Life Support; Children’s Oncology Group; and Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses.
Mayans is inspired by the courage displayed by our patients and families. She is motivated by the opportunity to learn in order to improve outcomes for survivors of childhood cancer.
