Melanie Hankewycz APN, CPNP-PC, CPHON is a pediatric nurse practitioner specializing in inpatient care of pediatric bone marrow transplant patients. Hankewycz’s main areas of focus are the diagnosis and care of patients with severe combined immunodeficiency as well as other primary immunodeficiencies, and the diagnosis of hemoglobinopathies.
In her current role, she serves as an advanced practice nurse for the Institute for Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders at Hackensack Meridian Health Hackensack University Medical Center. Her responsibilities include diagnosis, evaluation and management of care of pediatric patients undergoing bone marrow transplant. Hankewycz began at Hackensack University Medical Center in 2006 as student nurse extern. She has served as a staff RN in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, providing clinical nursing care to infants, children, and adolescents; and serving as a preceptor and charge nurse. She has also served the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center as a Beacon Instructional Designer, mastering Epic’s oncology application and incorporating its function into organization workflows.
A graduate of Rutgers University College of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science and a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner degree, Hankewycz is affiliated with the following professional organizations: Association of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Nurses; the Local NJ Chapter of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Nurses; Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing; Children’s Oncology Group.
