On Christmas morning 2016, while his friends were opening gifts and munching on cookies, Cameron was admitted to the Children’s Cancer Institute at Hackensack Meridian Health. Only days earlier at just three years old, Cameron, was diagnosed with a stage-four neuroblastoma. A devastating diagnosis, as this tumor historically has not had a very good prognosis with a relapse rate of 50-60%.
A drug trial funded through Tackle Kids Cancer gives him a chance at a healthy future. This trial utilized genetic sequencing to match Cameron’s tumor to one of six available targeted drugs, which was added to his chemotherapy regimen. While he still has a ways to go, he is responding to treatment and the medical team is hopeful.
