Frances Flug, M.D., MBA is a board-certified pediatrician and pediatric hematologist/oncologist serving HackensackUMC since 1991. Dr. Flug is the director of the Pediatric Hematology Program at the Institute for Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders at Hackensack Meridian Health Hackensack University Medical Center.
Her responsibilities include: development and coordination of diagnostic and treatment service to pediatric hematology and oncology patients; leadership of the multidisciplinary hematology team; clinical supervision of pediatric hematology and pediatric oncology advanced practice nurses; inpatient pediatric hematology/oncology attending on a rotating basis; director of the Pediatric Oncology Tumor Board; and faculty advisor to residents.
Dr. Flug earned her bachelor’s degree at Barnard College/Columbia University, her medical degree at SUNY-Downstate Medical School and her MBA at the Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University. She completed her residency in pediatrics and her fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at Bellevue Hospital/NYU Medical Center, where she also served as a research associate.
Dr. Flug participates fully in medical student and resident education and evaluation at the Hackensack University Medical Center Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology, including didactic sessions, grand rounds, tumor board, bedside rounds, inpatient and outpatient attending, and clinical supervision. She serves as associate professor of pediatrics at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
In addition, Dr. Flug serves on the State of New Jersey Department of Health Sickle Cell Advisory Committee. She participates in several committees at the Seton Hall-Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. At Hackensack University Medical Center, she serves on Emergency Preparedness Committee.
Dr. Flug has conducted research and been published in her field. Dr. Flug’s professional affiliations include membership in the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, and the Children’s Oncology Group.
